( 100 Bedded Eye Hospital )

V M A Netra Niramay Niketan (100-bedded Eye Hospital consisting of 40 free beds and 60 paying beds) set up with Govt. approval in 1994 occupies a very significant place among the activities of the mission Assam. It is providing eye care services to approx. 10 million rural poor population in the surrounding areas. The hospital renders sub speciality services in squint, Diabetic Retinopathy, Low Vision, Child Eye Care, Glucoma, Contact Lenses, Cornea & Eye Bank.

Patients treated in OPD are around 1,80,000 and in IPD more that 18,000 Surgeries are performed per year. It attracts patients from different districts of West Bengal, neighbouring states of Orrisa, Bihar, Jharkhand , Tripura , and the neighbouring countries like Bangladesh . The high volume of service speaks for its quality and the low cost facilities provided to the common people.

It conducted population based surveys on blindness under National Programme for Control of Blindness , Govt. of India  in Dhenkanal, Orissa  , Malda , W.B in 2001. and North Tripura in 2003 . The Health and Family Welfare Deptt. (Ophth.) Govt. of India appreciated the volume quality of work done by VMA Netra Nramay Niketan .

The institution has already conducted different population based research work mostly on childhood blindness.

The Netra Niramay Nketan conducts observational/ hands on Training for Ophthalmologists and Paramedical staff from different hospitals of different states.

It renders regular services throughout the year trough out-reach screening camps and 5 vision centers to which 15,000(approx.) out-patents receive treatment and 7000 pts. Are brought to the base hospital per year for surgery. Camp services are free of cost. It also conducts School& ICDS Screening Programmes and renders services to around 10,000 children per year. Special outreach programme conducted for Diabetic Retinopathy& ROP.

VMA Institution of Ophthalmic Training set up n 2003 for conducting different training courses.

Eye Heath Seminar, Exhibition and Training camp on Eye Health Education and Care since 1994 under NPCB, Govt. Of India and Health & Family Welfare Deptt., Govt. of West Bengal are held every year with experts in the field to make the public aware for prevention and cure of avoidable blindness.
